Outdoor Photo Shoots

While male model gets ready, the photographer and crew are also preparing. However, Campus Men has learned to keep the number of crew to the absolute minimum at shoots to help new college guys feel more comfortable.

Stylist

If a wardrobe stylist is involved, she is in charge of handling the clothing and accessories. She makes sure the articles to be worn by the male models are kept clean, and free from damage. She also return garments to their owners if they are on loan. She assesses the location and the male model, suggests items to be worn and attends to the male model during the photo shoot when he cannot move from the pose. She pins down flaps, making sure pockets are tucked in and wrinkles are not seen.

Hair Stylist

The hair stylist makes sure models' hair is perfectly in place. Sometimes hair stylists will apply a large amount of heavy hair gel or pomade to a model's hair to keep the hair in place if the wind is blowing. While the photographer is shooting photos, the hairstylist repositions any hair that might become windblown. Wing is a hair stylist's mortal enemy. A dangling lock of hair may add the finishing touch needed to make a spectacular photo.

Bystanders Can Make a New Model Nervous

Photo shoots are unusual happenings. They attract attention. However, sometimes bystanders can make a model nervous if the model is not wearing clothing. During outdoor photo shoots where a male model is semi-nude, the camera cannot see any nudity. This is because of trick angles. But bystanders standing may be able to see the model's penis or ass because they are standing at just the right angle. If other male models are standing by, they can block bystanders' views and keep them from snapping their own snapshots of the model's nude body. Better yet, they can be scooted away.

Before the photo shoot

It is better for the photo crew to bring an oversupply of props, supplies and equipment to the photo shooting location than be caught needing something. (Crew members regret this when faced with carrying unneeded equipment for long distances between locations.)

Before the photo shoot begins, male models follow a preparation checklist to ready themselves to be photographed.

While preparing, it is important that no one kicks sand or allows hairspray to get on the photo equipment. Some equipment used is delicate and can become jammed by a granule of sand. Camera lenses must be cleaned thoroughly if hair supplies get on them.

Pumping Up Muscles

Male models "pump up" their muscles a few minutes before they step in front of the camera. They can do bicep curls by using resistance with a towel. One model may hold the towel from both ends, allowing another model to pull the middle up. You can read about how to get muscles pumped up for a photo shoot.
