Assisted Pull-Up Using Resistance Band


Differentiation: Mechanics

This variation of a pull-up is unique. Here is how: you use a looped-type oversized resistance band. The band is wrapped around a single knee. This position requires you to engage your core to maintain a vertical posture. Making the band thicker and shorter | lowers the amount of weight your lats pull. This exercise is good for beginners who want to build enough strength to perform basic reverse grip pull-ups because the band assists your lats on the way up.


Starting Position

To get into starting position, do this...

1) Obtain a heavy-duty Giant Resistance Band. This is more longer and wider than most resistance bands.

2) Locate a pull-up bar.

3) Loop both exercise bands around the center of the pull-up bar.

4) For each band, feed one end through the other so that an open end is hanging down. This is similar to the way you loop a scarf around your neck in cold weather.

5) Stand under the pull-up bar of with the bar more than an arms-length over your head.

6) Put a knee firmly in the open end of the band.

7) ...and grasp the pull-up bar with a wide grip.

8) Each band will run from the bar to each knee.

Once in starting position, do this...

1) This is the starting position.

2) Pull your body upward...

3) ...until your chin is over the pull-up bar.

4) This is the ending position.

6) Then, gradually lower your body - until the bar is an arms-length over your head.

Proper Form

Pay special attention to following proper form by...

Only your arms should move.

Your torso should not swing when pulling up.

Keep your elbows close to the sides of your body and do not allow them to bow outward.
