Modeling agencies in small modeling markets hire photographers based in Los Angeles and New York to visit their city and photograph models at a mass photo session.
Some modeling agencies may fly in a male model photographer from a major market such as New York or Los Angeles to impress naive young guys who want to model. The modeling agency pays the photographer $25 - $100 to photograph multiple male models. However, the agency charges the male model $400-$450 for the photo shoot.
No Special Attention to Any One Model
No single model receives much attention when being with many other models. Male models are hurriedly photographed with a dozen or more other guys during a short period of time. This leaves little time for special attention to any one guy. Big City does not mean high quality if your photo shoot is rushed.
You also do not benefit by creating your entire portfolio with a visiting photographer. A good modeling portfolio includes different styles of photographs created by different male model photographers. All photographs in a portfolio should not be created by the same photographer.
