Photography Lighting For Male Models
|
When male models create video bios, we stress the importance of having ample light in the room. Lighting is also important for professional photo shoots. Some photographers use these lighting techniques at photo shoots:
Photo Umbrellas Block Intense Midday Sun
The midday sun can be too bright for outdoor photo shoots, causing the male model to squint excessively or get overheated.
If a photo shoot is held any time from 11 AM to 3 PM, when the sun is directly overhead, photographers do not allow sunlight to directly shine on models. Instead, he has a crew member hold a special umbrella over the male model to block the sun's rays. A second crew member stands a distance away to reflect less intense sunlight onto the model using a light reflector. The crew members avoids shining sunlight into the model's eyes. The light reflected from the boards becomes the main source of light for the photo shoot.
At group photo shoots, male models waiting for their turn in front of the camera sometimes use umbrellas to block the sun so they do not develop tan lines or burns. It is better to completely block sun's rays than to develop tan lines or burns while waiting.
Photo Light Meters
Photography light meters also make models look good by helping give male models a darker tan by controlling the amount of light the camera captures.
Light Reflector Boards
At outdoor shoots, the sun is often not the main source of light because it is too intense at certain times of the day. Sunlight that bounces off light reflector boards shine on the model's muscles instead of the sun.
Baby Oil in Crevices of Muscles Attract Light Reflections
Campus Men applies baby oil to crevices of model's abdominal and pectoral muscles to attract light reflections. The baby oil reflects the light and make muscles seem more defined as possible for the camera.
