Model Overcomes Rainy Season to Create Very Popular Photo
|
Bad weather throughout an entire summer wrecked havoc on Campus Men's photo shoots. Outdoor shoots scheduled during June and July in Columbus Ohio were repeatedly delayed or cancelled because of rain.
Scheduling photo shoots in advance became nearly impossible because of unpredictable weather. It seemed as though it rained every other day and only on days that photo shoots were scheduled! The sun would shine only on days when no photo shoots were scheduled. This was the final photo shoot needed for a calendar, which was late in its production schedule.
Gus Dakis, posed for what the photographer called a "miracle photograph. The photo depicted Gus in a pair of wet white sanitary shorts under an outdoor shower. The shower was located beside a pool in a condo complex in Columbus called Hidden Lakes. When wet, the shorts became see-thru.
Being "On-Call" Because of Unpredictable Weather
Gus' shoot was scheduled a week in advance. However, once again, heavy rain hit Columbus on the day of Gus' photo shoot, flooding streets and drenching High Street businesses prior to the 4:30 p.m. photo session. The photographer telephoned Gus and told him they would only go through with his shoot if the rain stopped due to some "miracle."
Since it rained non-stop for hours, the photographer assumed he was off the clock and settled into watching TV. Then at 4:15, the rain suddenly stopped. So, the photographer quickly phoned Gus to say the shoot was "on." Gus and a friend; along with the photographer grabbed equipment and sped off to the condo pool.
Waiting For Sunlight
When they arrived, rain was still dripping from gutters of the pool house. However, once set up, no sun was shining.
Gus' friend stood on a stepladder outside of the camera's view to pull a spring-action chain to start the shower's water. Gus stood in exact position under the shower head while the photographer stood behind his camera, continuously measuring light, waiting for the sun to appear. The three nervously waited for several minutes for clouds to move and allow sunlight to shine.
But there was not sun for a half hour. Just as they decided to cancel, wrap it up and go home without any photos, the sun fell below the clouds, engulfing the pool area in a brilliant deep gold color. The sun only shined for three minutes. In the short time before the sun fell behind the horizon, a half roll of film was snapped off.
Surprisingly, Gus' photograph, which was created in a total of about 150 seconds, became the most popular image in the calendar. It was responsible for many sales because girls bought the calendar only because Gus' photo was so good! Nobody knew the trouble weather had caused.
