Male models do not use the kind of "makeup" your girlfriend or mother uses (rouge, foundation, dark mascara). However, there are a few methods to improve the appearance of male models' faces.

The purpose of makeup of male models is to subtly enhance what you already have by disguising blemishes and imperfections. It is not wise to try to drastically change a male model's face with makeup.

Rule of Thumb When Using Makeup On males

The key to using makeup on males is to avoid adding too much. makeup should not be noticeable to the human eye. Add as little powder as possible. More can be added, if needed. But it is difficult to take off powder if you add too much. You should wear so little powder that if you went into a bar, the most macho dick in the bar would never notice you are wearing powder. You should only disguise zits and add a little powder with a brush to even-out skin tones. People should be able to look at you and think "He looks good today," but not know you have stuff on your face.

Concealer Covers Zits and Pimples

Use a Q-tip to cover zits with concelaer. Only apply a small amount of concealer over the red part of the zit, not over the entire face. Use concealer that matches your skin tone to cover pimples. Lightly add concealer. Once again, it is better to add less concealer than risk making it noticeable in photos.

Translucent Powder

Many Photographers use a translucent powder on models. Translucent powder takes away any shine on skin and evens out tones. Christian Dior Diorskin Loose Powder is an typical translucent powder you can order from Amazon. style=

Powder and Concealer Should Match Skin Tones (very important)

If you purchase makeup, be sure to be very careful to match your skin tones. Makeup and concealer for women often has a pink underlying "base" color. When the makeup is on your face, your face should not be a different color from your neck and chest. It should blend in. Sometimes see photos where the female models face is a different color than the rest of her body.

Buying powder and concealer colors that match skin tones is as difficult as choosing paint chips at a Sears store to paint your house. Consult a professional at an upscale department store beauty counter. Powder and concealer must also match to your skin tone. You do this by going to a department store makeup counter to have an expert match your skin color. Be aware that staff of those beauty counters are motivated to sell you the most expensive product they can. Ask for a cheaper powder and concealer with an identical color. Spend around $20. Since so little concealer is used, it should last for years.

Lips

Male models do not wear lipstick, but sometimes Vaseline Lip Therapy can be applied to their lips to enhance their natural lip color and get light to reflect off the model's lips. Do not apply too much. Keep the Vaseline Lip Therapy on the red of the lips. To repair lips, models apply Vaseline Lip Therapy applied the day before a shoot can repair lips by getting rid of chapped or peeling lips.

Clear Mascara is for Men, Black Mascara is for Girls

Adding a clear mascara to eyelashes and eyebrows thickens the hairs and helps the camera "see" them. Do not wear black mascara. Girls usually wear colored mascara, buy you need to buy clear mascara, which is sometimes difficult to locate. Max Factor is a brand of mascara that is sold at most local stores. Ramy Clear Mascara Revitalizer is a typical clear mascara you can order through the Internet or you can order the cheaper be PROFESSIONAL Clear Mascara through Amazon style=

Bacteria on Mascara Brush

A photographer or stylist will likely have mascara at the photo shoot. However, if a previous model used it, the mascara may have the other model's bacteria on it. It is best to purchase your own clear mascara stick and not share it. If you use mascara another model has used, you can rinse out the application brush with very hot water for two minutes.

Adding to Eyebrows

If a model has thin eyebrows, hair gel or Murrays Pomade can be applied to a model's eyebrows. The gel or pomade achieves the same effect as mascara on eyelashes by thickening individual hairs. Eyebrows can also be combed into a certain direction to make the eyebrows seem fuller.

Plucking Eyebrows

Stray or very long eyebrow hairs near the temples should be shortened. Stray hairs and hairs in the middle of the two eyebrows should be plucked. Unibrows are not good to have. However, do not overpluck your eyebrows. Subtlty with all makeup tactics is key. If someone can tell you altered your eyebrows, you are taking off too much.

Awapuhi Moisture Mist Blends in powder

Spraying Paul Mitchell's Awapuhi Moisture Mist on the face will enliven the skin. You can order Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Instant Moisture Mist 8.5 oz through Amazon.

Tans Can Act as Makeup

A light tan does wonders at helping your face look good. Models with a tan do not need bronzer or other color applied. Always add moisturizer if your tan you face.
