It isn't enough to be good looking. You can be the hottest guy in your state, but if the right professionals don't know about you, you will not go anywhere. You need to "network." Trust us on this one, it is important. Networking means simply making contact with others who can help you get to where you want to be.

Locate Real Modeling Industry Professionals. Not Amateur Photographers

So, part one of career networking for a male model is meeting and getting to know professionals who are not just willing, but capable of helping your career.

Avoid Networking With the Wrong People

Now this is a tough one. Associating with people who waste your time does not help you. Surprisingly, hooking up with bullshit artists will prevent you from succeeding. New guys tend to hook up with people who want to take advantage of guys either financially or in other ways tend to seek out new models. Naturally, new models tend to hook up with these people - because there are an abundance of them. This occurs because guys are desperate to rush things and accept the first offer presented to them and because bullshit artists know that the best way they can get what they want is by going after naive college guys who lack experience.

Don't Put All Your Networking Eggs in One Basket

Networking within the modeling industry, part 3: Don't put all your eggs in one basket. Most guys stop networking as soon as some random photographer contacts them - regardless if the photographer is legit or is actually capable of doing anything for him. He thinks, OK, this dude contacted me cos he found my photos on myspace. So, that it out of the way. Now, I can get back to lifting weights. So, stopping your search for more knowledge just because you meet someone who talks a good game is not smart.

Say you want to sell your car. You don't rely on another person to sell your car for you... You do a mass mailing to everyone in your address book to ask if they know of anyone who wants to buy a car. You can do the same with trying to locate other male models who can give you real, non-bullshit advice.

Believe Advice From Male Models, Not Agents

Networking part four: Now this is the most important - because you are actually talking to guys your age who actually go in front of the camera instead of relying on modeling contacts who may or may not be shady. Make friends with other dudes who are involved modeling and who were in your shoes at one time.
