Opposite Sex Can Distract from Professionalism at Photo Shoots

Female model creates unprofessional atmosphere at male modeling photo shoot

A photograher at Ohio State University published both female and male pin-up calendars. This required recruiting and selecting two sets of students and photographing each set of models in St. Petersburg. The photographer used the same condo for the two separate groups during two different weeks.

Having never been to Florida, he didn't know the "lay of the land" and mistakenly selected a St. Petersburg for the two-week project. St. Petersburg Beach had a picturesque beach, but was no place for a lively group of college students spend a week. It turned out to be a retiree community, intolerant of our semi-nude models and pushy crew interfering with their calm lives. There were no bars and the condo that served as the models' home away from home was as far from luxurious as you could get. We never went back.

The girls visited Florida for their photo shoots first. One model, Kathy, offered to stay on and "help" the crew with shooting during the male models production. Big mistake!

Kathy was the only female in a group of good-looking college guys - and it seemed to go to her head. While she did occasionally cook for the men, she mostly partied hard and became the center of attention in the rented condo. She didn't result in much help. The trip became all about her and not about photo shoots.

After hours, she led the long drive to the Clearwater Beach bar scene, entering a "Best Teddy" contest at a Clearwater beach club and practicing for a hoped-for future career as a Playboy centerfold.

She was a distraction to the project, keeping the male models out late and creating an unprofessional atmosphere for the shoot. While male models are interested in having females around, there is a time and place for professionalism. There is much that needs to be accomplished when shooting multiple male models.

We would never allow a female to hang around a photo shoot again, despite offers to "help out."

Girls are great - but only after the workday is done.
