Models Should Always Give Good Facial Expressions In Front of the Camera

A photo created for a local sports magazine illustrates how good photos can be made in dirty or unglamorous location. The now defunct "Scarlet & Gray Illustrated Magazine" hired a photographer to photograph their annual swimsuit edition.

He photographed 10 girls at beaches and pools. One model arrived at the photographer's house and said she could not stay long because she needed to depart for spring break. Since driving to the nearest beach would take too long, the photographer simply photographed here in a parking lot behind his house!

The photographer made a backdrop using metallic mylar and cardboard sheeting painted pink and black and set it up in the middle of the parking lot.

The model knelt on her knees on pillows. Broken glass, trash, and parked cars were outside the view of the camera lens. The model asked repeatedly if the photo "looked any good" during the photo shoot. Her facial expressions conveyed disgust.

When the photos were developed, most of the photos were unusable because of the model's poor facial expressions. But, a few photos were phenomenal. One photo was chosen to appear on the cover of the magazine. When the model saw the photos, she admitted that she assumed the photos would end up being poor at the time of the shoot.

"She needed to go with the flow and trust that the location did not matter," our photographer said.
