How to Be Interviewed: Restate the Questions

There are two things to remember when being interviewed when asked questions on video: 1) Don't be in a hurry and 2) Restate the question when giving your answer.

When a reporter asks you a question during a video-taped interview, the actual question she asks will be edited out.

Because only your answer will be aired in the final video, you need to include the question with your answer. If you say short yes or no answers, people will not know what you are talking about because they do not know the question.

For example, if a reporter asks what makes your project successful, you cannot give a simple two word answer like "hard work." Instead, you should restate the question, such as "The thing that makes our project successful is our hard work."

Don't let your nervousness force you to be in a hurry during interviews. There are no bonus points for answering questions quickly. Take your time. You can take two seconds after the question to think of how to restate the question and think of your answer. After you hear a question, you can take one, two or even four long seconds to think before answering. Pauses while you are not speaking will be edited out. Only your answer will be aired.
