How to Become Famous

Digg this story

The way to become famous is by doing something that allows a larger number of people to see you. There are very few quick and easy ways to become famous. Most methods require generating exposure for yourself. Exposure is valuable because it exposes you to other people.

Exposure Indirectly Creates Opportunities

Exposure does not always put money in your pocket immediately. Exposure indirectly helps you by making you a little famous. For example, when a college guy is looking for exposure, what he wants is to indirectly receive a modeling job (later).

The American Heritage Dictionary defines "indirectly" as:

Not directly planned for;
secondary:
having indirect benefits.

It does not matter if you are the best looking or funniest guy on your campus if nobody outside your city knows about you.

One easy way for a college student to get exposure is by making a video that gets published on a promotional page dedicated to the student on Campus Men. Getting exposure by having a video on Campus Men can help you because you can get opportunities from professionals who see you. Thousands of people visit CampusMen.com each month. There are a small ratio of visitors who can offer you paying opportunities because they saw your video. They see your video, like something you said or the way you act and contact you through your page.

The way not to become famous is by acting serious in your video because you really want to do a good job. The guys that attract opportunities are the ones who "be themselves" and do not try to be serious when speaking in their video.

Transforming a Low-Paying Opportunity into Something that can Generate Exposure For You

We encourage new guys to learn about modeling and adopt goals for themselves. When we talk to new guys, they often say their first goals are simply "exposure."

However, exposure is not always positive and often is worthless. Most photographers who are too cheap to pay new guys say they have "exposure" to offer. They say if you pose for these pics, you get exposure (and can get paid by someone else later.)

Many photographers may wish to photograph you without paying you. They may offer you the exposure of appearing in their portfolio on their website. Appearing on a photographer's portfolio who has no paying clients and whose work does not get published in any magazines will not help you much.

Good exposure is theoretically possible, but exposure means nothing without an ability to generate paying opportunities later. One way to generate exposure is by accepting a low-paying modeling job. Perhaps the job requires eight hours of your time, but you only receive $75 as payment. So, why accept the job? Because you want exposure. Exposure is the way to become famous.

If you agree to do a modeling job for cheap, will some modeling professional who sees you be able to later hire you? Will they be able to contact you - or even know the name of the model who appears in the advertisement?

For example, open any magazine that has an advertisement that includes a male model. Is the model's name shown anywhere in or near the ad? Let's say you are a modeling professional and want to hire that dude. If his name is not listed with the advertisement, professionals do not have a way to contact or hire the guy?

So, when you accept a low-paying modeling job, you need to assure that your name is printed somewhere near the ad or photo (each and every time it appears) as:

MODEL: Your Name.

So, when some company offers you a very low amount of money for your first modeling job, be sure to say "Sure, I will do it, but I will need a credit that lists my first and last name whenever the photo is used." Your name need not be printed in huge letters in the ad. Just the same size as the copyright notice which likely lists the photographer's name.

Campus Men also suggests sometimes new models should sometimes pose without getting paid because they receive indirect benefits.
