Calendar featuring OSU students not at Long's
There's still a calendar featuring Ohio State University students, but it won't be found on the shelves of Long's Bookstore, 1836 N. High St.
The calendar, with photos of scantily clad men, is being sold around campus but isn't endorsed by Ohio State. Claiming copyright infringement, Ohio State last year filed a lawsuit against the calendar's creator, who in turn agreed to destroy remaining copies of last year's calendar in an out-of-court settlement.
This year's calendar doesn't make any references to Ohio State or use the school's logo.
Since 1982, the calendar, in one form or another, has been available at Long's, said Sean Ashbrook, the calendar's creator.
But this year Long's is no longer a locally owned business. It's operated by Barnes & Noble Booksellers, which has licensed and retained the name from Campus Partners. Campus Partners is an OSU-backed effort to revitalize the neighborhood around the campus area.
Terry Foegler, who oversees Campus Partners, said his organization had nothing to do with blocking the calendar sales at Long's, as some media reports have alleged.
He said he thinks the calendars are not being sold at Long's because the company that makes them is not on the Barnes & Noble's vendor list.
The manager of Long's Bookstore was unavailable for comment.
