Better Off Dead

Better Off Dead (1985)
Director: Savage Steve Holland
Cast: John Cusack, Curtis Armstrong, Kim Darby, David Ogden Stiers

Memorable Line(s): "I've been going to this high school for seven and a half years. I'm no dummy. I know high school girls."

* Guilty Pleasure *
This is one of the 80's teen comedies in the vein of the John Hughes movies that while not as polished, has some pretty good laughs.

John Cusack plays sad sack Lane Meyer in the midst of a depression brought on by the recent break-up with his girlfriend. While in these doldrums, he tries futilely to dispatch himself while his friend "Booger" (Armstrong) coaches him to get over the break-up. Filled with some nice gags including a Mafia style paperboy who wants his "two dollars," a Casanova little brother, near deadly ski slopes, and psychedelic animated fantasy sequences.

While it will never be considered art by any means, it has its moments and there could be a lot less pleasurable ways to spend a couple hours.
