Monty Python and the Holy Grail

Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1976)
Director(s): Terry Jones and Terry Gilliam
Cast: Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, Michael Palin, Terry Gilliam

Memorable Line: "Oh, but you can't expect to wield supreme executive power just because some watery tart threw a sword at you."

This is one of the movies in which there are dozens of memorable lines. Asking any devotees of this movie and there's little doubt that they can pull one out. That's the power of this movie.

The plot is simple, yet complex and really meanders from one extremely funny scenario to the next. It would be difficult to find a sequence that doesn't have at least one genuine laugh. We follow King Arthur and his merry lot as they seek the grail. Obstacles are aplenty -- death dealing knights, magical bridge keepers, officious Frenchmen, a killer rabbit, and many hilarious more. It's just a movie you have to see to enjoy.

Written and performed by the cast of the famous British comedy team Monty Python's Flying Circus, they bring there own brand of silly, witty and irreverent humor to the big screen. Few stones are left unturned as they script skewers perceptions of royalty in the middle ages, musicals, superstition, and the list goes on and on.

Every time I watch it, I find a new scene that I find hilarious. When I first watched it, I found the scene where King Arthur must face off with the fearless Black Knight for the right to cross a bridge the most hilarious. King Arthur gets the upper hand as he slowly dismembers the Knight, yet the knight fails to concede defeat even when he's been reduced to a torso and a head. Anyway, that's the type humor that Monty Python delivers and if it's not your cup of tea, then you won't find this movie funny. But if you do, this is a must see.
